A Change In Bowel Habit
That Wouldn't Settle

The patient, in their late fifties, noticed a change in bowel habit and occasional blood in the stool over about two months. It was initially dismissed as a recurrence of piles, a common assumption that often delays proper evaluation of more serious colorectal conditions.

A colonoscopy referred by Dr. Krishna Pada Saha identified a mass in the rectosigmoid region, and biopsy confirmed adenocarcinoma. Staging investigations showed the disease was still localised, making the patient a strong candidate for curative, sphincter-preserving surgery rather than a more extensive procedure.
